Hi
Those who keep boats in/cruise around/change crews in Ireland may like a reminder that Ruinair (bless em) is not the only way across the Irish Sea.
Courtesy of having a daughter at university in Dublin (at ruinous cost) I did some delving and fround that a train from London to Dublin, ferry included, is just £29. Which is more than the airlines on a good day -- but most days are not good days, and to their byzantine fare structures you have to add trains/buses to Gatwick or wherever.
Train go right across to Galway, down to Limerick Waterford etc.
And the clincher for me is that its an any day, any train fare: book online, collect ticket at local station, get on train.
I've no commercial connection, just a satisfied customer (and I confess a Gatwickophobe!)

There are some very good rail/ferry deals from stations in Scotland to Belfast via Stranraer, too - then if you're heading south the train ride to Dublin is only two hours.

A good deal at £29./33 euro but note that if purchasing tickets the other way Dublin/London the price goes up to 44 euro.another example of inexplicable differences which is why everyone is shopping in the North

Booked flights with Aer Lingus to Dusseldorf for Boot, flight costs "nothing" () ,taxes and charges came to €60 return, well worth watching for seat sales.
