If you are using a cruising chute/spinnaker and keep the main up just to help recovery is a preventer neccesary?

If you are dead downwind then the main will blank the chute unless you sheet it right in or goosewing. Both will be more effective a bit off the wind. If dead downwind with the main out then I like to have a preventer on.
