Dear Forum

Advice please on setting the cruising chute.
The tack is led back to the cockpit and the rig is fractional.
My question is , How far should the tack be from the block at the stem and should the head be tight to the mast or flying a little free?. I know it will very according to wind angle but lets say a broad reach.

I have a feeling that the sail might be a bit on the small side for the boat.

Cheers

The head should always be hoisted to the top, otherwise there's a chance of getting an interesting see-saw affect on the sail and exadurating the roll on the boat.

The tack line can be varied though. Broadly speaking, keep it tighter for heading further upwind and in stronger winds. Ease it to run deep.

On my Vivacity 24 i fly mine about 8" short of the masthead block (with a swivel shackle) but only because i dont have a "crane" and if i hoist it too high i foul the twin headstays as for the tack, the line is led aft and adjusted as required........
I think trial and error is required to get it right /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
