I have two colourful down wind sails that came with the boat. I always thought one a crusing chute and one a 'proper spinnaker' that never really set well . I measured the 'spinnaker' and found it to be asymmetrical( luff longer that leach by 5'). This sail is made of lighter cloth and is bigger than the other . Is this another cruising chute or an assymetrical spinnaker or both?????

You appear to have one of each.

Name one Chicken. I leave you to work out which.
The really good news is that they have the same technique for use. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The names are inter-changable - if SWMBO is on board we get out the cruising chute; otherwise we use the a-sail - both look very similar somehow...............

Just don't try telling a J-boat racer he's setting a cruising chute.....

Asymmetrics come in lots of shapes and sizes, and cruising chutes are just one type.

A CC is usually characterised by being somewhat smaller than a full size asym, and being fairly full cut - they also will typically not be radially/star cut as most good asyms are
