Just had my boat for one season, mostly used for racing. Even so at the end of the season there was an enormous amount of stuff on it, stowed everywhere!

So in order to give the start of the season racing a chance I have emptied nearly everything and will race with the minimum safety gear and a few tools (that is for fixing stuff, not my crew!).

However I am then going to go cruising for the middle of the season. I need a list as I will be taking one weekend to get her ready!

Does anyone have a list that they can publish for stuff I should take with me! Obviously I can make my own but it would be interesting to see everybody elses.

Mine needs to start:

Dinghy
Outboard
Nav Laptop - inc chart usb, usb gps, power supply
Plates
Cups
Saucepan
Washing up liquid
Scourers
Toilet Roll
Mooring Warps

etc etc

You see what I mean?? All essential safety equipment like first aid kit etc will already be on there. In actual fact that should be the first bit of the list

Essential Stuff For Racing:

Lifejackets
First Aid kit and medicine box
2 * Knifes stowed
Rescue Ring and Light
Throwing Line
Small tool roll
Spare dyneema etc
Fenders

Can you tell I am bored at work.......... should be sailing around the world, not driving a desk!

Tea-towels, frying pan, galley utensils in general. Ketchup, pickle, teabags, all the stuff that normally lives in the galley rather than being bought for each cruise.
Spare water containers in case the tank gets contaminated or runs out unexpectedly (I buy supermarket "Value" 2-litre bottles on the grounds that they were filled under clean conditions and should last longer).
Binos, hand compass. Handheld VHF?
Courtesy flags if relevant to your cruise
Plug-in searchlight or Big Feckoff Torch
Boathook
Dinghy oars
Spare diesel
Buckets
Hose reel - lots of places don't provide a hose any more
Shore power cable
Kedge?
Cockpit tent?
Anchor ball and light
Dinghy pump!
Extra spares and tools if needed beyond what you carry for racing. Spare fuel filters if nothing else.
Spare engine oil
Rigging spares?
Rucksack for carrying shopping back to the boat
Bedding
Cleaning stuff
Beer
Wine
Gin
:)

The fact Pete, that you wrote Beer, wine & Gin last proves to me you're not a real cruiser and a closet racer..! ;-)

Thanks for the list. A good start. We are going to be super fast at the beginning of the season without all that stuff. Shame we don't know what we are doing!!
