Cruiser Racing in the Portsmouth area

This might sound like an odd request. I spend most of the year pottering around the Solent with or without the family with a once yearly "expedition" to Cornwall/Channel Islands/France with the "boys". I do, however, yearn for a bit of racing, on occasions, and would love the idea of a race to Cherbourg or even to the Nab and back. I sail a Rival 32.
So to get to the question. Does anyone know of any cruiser racing open to non club members in the Portsmouth area?

To sharpen up the skills, each spring and autumn the Royal Naval/Royal albert series of "round the cans" races are friendly and not too cut-throat. These will accept none-club entries.

For the kind of Cross channel or coastal type races, look to JOG ( Junior Offshore Group) where there are all sorts of craft taking part. The Inshore series has races such as Cowes to Nab and back, Cowes to Poole and the Offshore series goes to places like Cherbourg, St Vaast, Alderney etc. They are a good crowd and I'm sure you would be welcomed.

Best of Luck

Hi,
My Elizabethan 31 is probably a fair match for your Rival. I haven't raced except Dinghies many years ago, so don't feel quite up to joining any series yet. We're at Portsmouth, so if you would like some fun, one on one, Solent area novices to practice on, I would be glad to learn the ropes against you.
Let me know if you're interested and we can compare diaries.

James, I have posted reply, but it has gone one down on the thread so you may not have been notified of its existence
See you in the Solent?
Mark.
