I have the opportunity to take 6 months off work next year and want to spend it on the boat as it's probably the only time I will be able to have such an extended break. I want to make the most of it (of course!!)...where would you go and how would you get there???

The basic details are:
--46' flybridge motor yacht, 30knots flat out and wallet open (so something more sedate as a long distance cruising speed!!!)

--two people in their 30's (so no need for marinas with Zimmer frame access) with mates occassionally flying over to see us

--will be flying back to UK every six weeks-ish for a long weekend / week to say hi to all the palefaces

--want to be in Greece for some/most of the time

--wouldn't mind spending all the time floating around Greece (I have Rod Heikell's books) but is it varied enough

--wouldn't have a problem shipping the boat nearer Greece / Med to save time and picking it up in Spain/Italy/Greece

--Round trip needs to be completed by September

--Is six months long enough to sail UK---Greece---swan about for a few months---UK and pop back to Blighty every now and then

What's going to go wrong / where should I go / what would you do???

Cheers
Stefan

PS Got all the other resources and books CA membership and stuff...just want to get an idea what to concentrate on and whether to meet the boat in Athens or sail myself....

The boat is in UK yes? I've had a boat road-transported, and wd try to avoid it again. So i would drive the thing esp wtih six months to spare. Western med. I wdn't go mboating to greece with daily meletmi winds and manky food, but it's a matter of opinion. But I am going to greece sailing - others say Levkada is fab scnerey, I'll let u kno in a few weeks time.

Sounds a fab trip.

If going as far as Greece I'd definitely add the Lycian coast of Turkey (Bodrum/Marmaris/Gulf of Fethiye and a bit beyond ) to your agenda. Esp. Fethiye area...lazy bays, mostly well sheltered. Not been out for ages but a regular visit for me a few years back.

You lucky, lucky ba.....d. I know its not Greece but the Dalmatian Coast in the Adriatic is stunningly beautiful and relatively uncrowded because the Germans still think its a war zone. Visit it before they find out. The fuel's cheap and you can always pop back to Italy for a decent meal
See September MBY for report
