I am surprised there has been no mention of this disaster on the forum. Far worse consequences than the incident in Venice where AFAIK nobody died. Viking river ship rear ended a smaller tour boat which was rolled over and sunk. So far 7 known to have died 7 survived and 20 odd still missing. Very similar to the Marchioness disaster on the Thames although the numbers were tragically far higher in that event.

It was interesting that my Wife and I were watching TV when the first reports and blurry video were shown on TV. The accompanying commentary was along the lines of "For some unexplained reason the small 40T boat swerved in front of the large 1000T boat whilst passing under the bridge but it is believed that neither of the crew members from the small boat have survived".

The implication, as noted by SWMBO, was that the guilty party would not be facing justice on this Earth. I suggested that the guilty party was actually alive and well and would be facing justice and all we had do was wait. :ambivalence:

I’m not sure that there is a guilty party.

As a young shipping lawyer in the 1970s I helped a partner in my firm to take evidence in a case where the Lowestoft tug «*Barkis*» was run down and sunk, with the loss of her crew of three, by the Cypriot coaster «*Jupiter*» as she was passing the heaving line. The eventual «*M*» notice concluded that it was interaction. My abiding memory is of trying to do something to convince the Greek Master of the coaster, who was borderline suicidal with grief and guilt, that it wasn’t his fault.

It does take someone to start a thread.
