hihi

my marina who will remain nameless at the mom.....however a name and shame list i think could be a good idea in the future.....has decided in their infinate wisdom to put up its fees by 22% for a semi tidal berth!!!!!! and thats after double rate inflation increases of the last few years i couldn t believe it.
the elec. has also gone up by 286%!!! now it is unmetered....

all this is blamed on the Crown Estates....not on the marinas excess profit on a bit of mud that u can only get off 1 hour either side of high water....

Que
does anyone know of a Crown Estates web site or telephone no?

is there such a thing a rent tribunal for rivers as in for comercial property letting?

Re:Swinging or swingeing moorings?

There is a huge debate going on at the moment about Crown Estates who are suddenly putting up monsterous rents for use of the seabed. There is considerable question about the legality of this latest 'tax'. Talk for example to Teignmouth mooring holders who are suddenly faced with a massive increase in their mooring costs following 'valuation' by CEC, who have decided that part of their brief is to charge 'Commercial rates' for the use of the seabed.

The irony of it is that Crown Estates Commissioners are agents for the Monarch whose function is to 'protect the rights of the people'

Top legal brains are involved in questioning the legality of these charges - at present apparently without success as Crown estates attitude seems to be : "dont like it? see you in court" - and no one has sufficient certainty of the legal grounds (or funds!) to go for it - presumably to the High Court.

The electricity on the other hand sounds a right scam..... so maybe the Crown Estates excuse is part of it?

Hi,

You must be in the same marina as me then, does it begin with a "U". I have also complained about the price, but heard nothing back yet. If it is the Crown Estate fees how come the other moorings haven't gone up as much in the same marina, some have only gone up 5%. Also the fees for a swinging moorings from the Crown Estate on the Hamble haven't gone up that much.

I think it is a ploy to put the fees up, Deacons up the river haven't increased theirs by much.

I think we should get together and complain. Send me a private mail and we can discuss it.

Regards,

Poggy

Maybe everyone who is effected should join forces and put into a pot to fight it. Often these bodies are not so sure of themselves when a large group stands up against them.

Come, come lads and lasses if it is the Crown Estates pushing up the prices surely you don't mind Mag and the boy King trying to fill there boots, after all dear Tony and Arthur Daley Brown are getting more than their share why shouldn't the rest of the rabble join in. Tut Tut, the peasants are revolting again dear!

Some interesting stuff on their website... www.crownestate.co.uk

Including the approach to hikes in charges. I was involved with a club once where part of our moorings were Crown and part were Local Authority. Licences were granted over a five year period and the price was fixed throughout. The club "absorbed" the step but imposed an annual increment so that at the end of the day thebooks balanced.
