I'm presently looking to replace oil and fuel filters; Crossland 612 and Crossland 5004 for the first time. I would appreciate it if anyone could advise me as to where I might be able to find these parts in the London/Essex/Kent area. Is it likely that I could find these in a high street motor parts shop or should I just be contacting marine engineers? How much are they likely to cost?

I'm also looking for a primary fuel filter element, Lucas 7111 296, which I think is now called Lucas HDF 296.

Many Thanks.

Go to any decent commercial engine supplier (Truck pats etc) or motor factors with the numbers and they will be able to cross match to whatever filter make they stock. Much cheaper by far than marine and the same bit of kit. The 296 is a very coimmon filter and should be available for a couple of quid.
Regards,
Eddie

Yep ,hafta agree with eddie, go see your local motor factor, they may even be able to supply you with a catalogue, (share info with fellow boaters) usally a third of the cost of marine swindlerys! Dave.

Hi Equinox, I use the HDF 296 filter myself and had been getting them from
Watsons Diesels in Wimbledon-they are very helpful. However I have also
found that you can get an equivalent from Halfords-they couldnt cross-reference
the part number but the filter is the same as the one they supply for the Transit
van. It is an odd make, something like Delphi but it costs 2pounds50 and works
OK

I think you will find that the Crossland equivalent of the 296 is the crossland 522. Lots of other make equivalents also. Iy is used in the CAV filter/separator.

I've used Crossland filters as a substitute for Volvo Penta on a Penta 2003 engine.

Re <<It is an odd make, something like Delphi >>
While searching for Lucas CAV parts, I discovered that Delphi is the new name for that business.

After I broke the glass sight-bowl on the water seperator (yes it did occur to me I might be over-tightening the bolt, about 2 secs before the glass shattered), a Volvo parts dealer told me the glass version is no longer withins EU regs for marine craft. He added that it's basically the same as the Lucas CAV glass bowl which is still legal for road vehicles. So any motor factor that distributes Lucas CAV (Delphi) parts should be able to supply this.

I suppose I can see the logic of metal being safer than glass for fuel filters and water seperators, but I can only see through glass not metal as well. ;-)
