I am a fan of the book, although have not used it that much as most of our cruising is up and down the coast rather than across.

However I have a query as a result of a difference of opinion with a friend when we went up to London 2 years ago.

On page 39 the section Kent Rivers to Essex Rivers it states that LW at the Whitaker Spit is approx 30mins AFTER LW Sheerness, our friend maintained that this was impossible, it must be BEFORE LW Sheerness.

Can this be clarified please?

The co-tidal curves at the back of NP249 (the Admiralty Tidal Stream Atlas for the Thames Estuary) show that low water at the Whittaker is about 15 minutes before Sheerness at neaps, and about 35 minutes before Sheerness at springs.

OMG. Damn. You have found a typo! Of course it's before. The tide comes down the North Sea and everything is later as you go 'up' a river. You got me checking the references to the times of tide at the Sunk Sand but they are right. Thank goodness.

Another errata then! Deeply embarrassing.... humble pie..... Owe you a pint....

Thanks very much for clarifying, I was fairly sure our friend was correct, but thought perhaps there was some subtlety about the Thames Estuary that he was unaware of.

I will correct my copy.
