Are there any special rules to cross The Channel/North Sea. I am planning to make a trip from the Netherlands to the UK next year with my Sealine F43.
Any comments/tips etc.. are welcome.

Are there any special rules

Do you mean as distinct from coast-hopping in the UK?

If that's what you're after, here are some things to read up on: Traffic separation schemes, documentation requirements for European ports and ICC.

The last one is probably the most important to you. If you go into European waterways but especially the Dutch, you must have an ICC including the CEVNI inland waterways endorsement. In the Dutch canals you are also required to have a copy of their rule book on board (it is only published in Dutch but the rules don't actually require you to be able to read it).

Welcome Garry,

I read that as you are making the passage from NL to UK! So ICC is not required. The TSS rules are very important, so make sure you know the relevant rules from the Collision Regulations.

Also plan for fog. Bring boat documents, registration, insurance - just in case.

Err... Actually you don't need an ICC in Holland unless your boat is longer than 15 meters or faster than 20 km/h.

Considerably faster than 20 kph I suspect.

However, re-reading the OP I now realise he is talking about coming from the Netherlands. Perhaps some of this advice from Gerard Hoffnung would be more apposite....

Try the famous echo in the reading room of the British Library.

Ignore all signs saying Left and Right, they are merely political slogans.

All London brothels display a blue light.

On entering a railway carriage, be sure to shake hands with all the occupants.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the CBT......

Cruising Bottle Tax.

In case you havent heard of this... you have to dispense 33% of any alcoholic beverages on board to appointed agents upon demand... You can tell the apointed agents as they fly a small blue ensign with the OCBT (Office of Cruising Bottle Tax) logo... which consists of a small rodent drinking from a martini glass.

Its one of those arcane licensing laws which toursist find so quaint.

Also, breakfast is between 0730 and 0930 , dinner 1830 to 2000.

Not a minute earlier or later ..............

You must salute all Blue Ensign's , anything made of wood and anything wearing a blazer or a cravat . Plus saying sorry every third word. If you complain about anything it is considered bad form . Just pay up .

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I made the assumption that as this was YM Suttlebut, that it was a stick and rag affair.

As it isn't, remember only white diesel is allowed!

It's one of these, but anyone's welcome here (as long as he brings his crew)

Although my name Garry is not a Dutch name I am dutch.
So reading the dutch rule book is no problem.
Most important information were the TSS rules. Don't want to end up with my boat chained in a British harbour because I messed up the commercial traffic.
Anybody knows a site were I can find some more information about TSS?
