Have got lots of info about crossing the channel from Ramsgate to Dunkirk i.e best time to leave to get favourable tidal stream but require same type of info for the return part.

Unless its flat calm, you'll probably prefer to go up the Rade de Calais, ie along the coast towards Calais, and this will drive your timing....

If you get it right, there are good tides to get a lift down the French coast, cross the TSS at right angles and then get tide the other way to give you lift back inside or outside Goodwin sands.... (we make the decision which when we see where the tide has taken us relative to the SW Goodwin light vessel ('cept its a bouy now!!!))

Depends a bit upon your boat speed, but we tend to leave Dunkerque at about LW Dover or perhaps an hour earlier or later depending upon weather and expected speed through the water...

Its a nice passage, with only a short TSS crossing

Just checked my Log for the last trip and it shows that I left 4 hrs before HW Dover and on arrival at Ramsgate I added the comment "Bad timing - Leave earlier" so Morgana is about right but as stated depends on route and speed.

Log also says "No wind" so it was all engine 16 ltr - Will I be able to afford it in future?

When we did it, we came out of Dunkirk and pointed towards Dover (about 275, give or take a bit for the TSS). Then we timed it so the tide changed when we got to the Goodwins and we came up the inside. So we got good tide all the way. I think we left at Dover HW+3.

This took us about 8 hours. Previously, we did it in a straight line and it took about 11!

We usually do the trip via the Sandettie lanby, and time it so we pass there at about HW. As we carry fair tide the whole way it takes about the same time as doing a straight line across all the shoals (which can be very bumpy....).
