Does anyone know what engine this is based on, is it the same as an MD22, also has anyone got a cross reference for the filters please?
Stu

Hi Stu,

My MD2030 is built by Perkins. I'm fairly sure that the MD22 was, too. I used to have a few contacts at Peterborough but the Aftermarket deal seems to be stitched up pretty tight. There's a vow of silence. I haven't managed to find like-for-like alternative part numbers despite a long and hard search. I even had to buy an oil filter from those nice people at Bangor, ouch. At least it's only once per year!

thanks for that, have got the cross ref for the vp2030, have put it on the bene site below in the forum,
"Keyparts are selling VP equivalent fuel filters for the 2030 at £15 they are from a californian outfit called Sure, filter number SFF6031, this has a Fram equivalent P2367 or a Crosland 370. The oil filter I sourced, using dimensions, as a Crosland 2093, the alternator belt is a Continental 966901 and the Cutlass bearing for bene 351 is 25mm id, 40mm od and 105mm length, the size for a bene 36cc is 30mm id, 40mm od and 104 mm long. these are £30 ish from a bene dealer but i am aware that somebody is supplying them as a std part at a lot less, am trying to refind them and will post it when i do"

have found out that the md22 is a rebadged perkins that was fitted in the montego and i think the tdm is just the turbo version but would like confirmation.
How did the propshaft job go?
Stu

I can confirm that the MD22 is a Perkins Prima and is similar to that fitted in the diesel Montego. I have invariably found that the Perkins spares to be cheaper than the Volvo ones(that wouldn't be difficult!). Halfords have a useful cross reference for oil and fuel filters and the Montego bits have done the job.

I think that you will find that the TMD22 is based on the Perkins engine and is also the same basic unit that was in the montego
However be very carefull with the oil filters as there are 2 different ones use which are very similar in size but have a slightly different thread size and can be mixed up
MD +TMD 22A use 876476 which screws down onto the nipple
MD +TMD +TAMD 22B use 3517857 which screws up onto the nipple
If in any doubt get the correct one from a dealer quoting your engine serial or spec number

Hi Stu,

Volvo Penta engine naming is as follows:-
TAMD = Turbocharged, Aftercooled, Marine Diesel. The next two numbers are generally, approx displacement in litres and series or generation.

I'm due to go back in Wednesday but the forecast is NW F7. I haven't yet been able to fit the sails so I'm very undecided!

I have the new seal but I haven't fitted it. Your words of wisdom still resonnate "evidence of centrifugal salt water wetting". Still not convinced I've found the source. The jubille clips on the HX outlet were lose and there was some staining. That's the problem when you find a leak at the end of the season just as she's being lifted.

I'll give you a call I know more.....

Forgot to add...........

Although the Penta badged engine is built by Perkins, it doesn't follow that you can use Perkins Spares. Aftermarket is very lucrative for the OEM's so they like to spring little surprises upon we punters trying to save a little. On the 2030 engine, the Jabsco water pump impeller at a glance looks identical to the "genuine". The bore is slightly smaller so it doesn't fit. Of course, the Penta version is made by Jabsco, just that it costs us more!
