about three years! I kept a journal when I was travelling. The words just tumbled out - sometimes over 3000 per week. Then I spent about a year getting my head around being back before I started to put it together. Then a complete rethink when a sort of editor friend said it was only good if the reader knew me. And then a year of tidying up and proof reading. Several times along the way I wondered if anyone would ever want to read it once I'd finished.
