I can post this now as I've got all the bits I want /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

CCC shop at Shillingford Bridge closes on the 30th September and the land recovered is to be used for new caravan style homes. All remaining stock is at greatly reduced prices - if it fits a caravan it fits a boat.

That is real shame, it was always worth a walk up there from the river even if we didn't know we wanted anything.

I see Byron now lives in Berks! Does Eileen know?

Its closed because people like us have stopped buying and now shop on the internet. Couldnt help thinking of the 'good old days' as I passed Hobbs at Henley last weekend. No use crying 'shame' - only ourselves and our penny pinching ways to blame. Suspect it is only a matter of time before the few chandleries left go the same way unless they have an internet presence.

More importantly, does Berkshire know..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

People like you maybe, but not me, I've bought up there almost every year, but I didn't go there to buy, just happened to be there with SWMBO at my side forcing the purchase.

It's about what the site is worth as a shop and the income it delivers or for the income for redevelopment as additional homes; happens elsewhere as well (just like Hobbs and the planned restaurant).
I've shopped with Ann at CCC for the last fifteen years and my old cruiser is still in the creek on the riverside part of the park.

I for one prefer to shop on the net, as it's so much cheaper! It's no wonder people aren't using chandleries when they were charging the extortionate prices for goods that weren't even 'quality'!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Here is a note of support for my local chandelry at Harleyford. On quite a few occasions when I have purchased items from the internet, I have then found the same item in harleyford chandelrey at a similar price and even lower to that bought on line, once you take into account delivery charges. I have found other chandelrys expensive, but I am constantly pleasantly surprised at Harelyford, particularly when you load in the additional service and advice. Gets my vote and my business.

Totally agree with you, I have always found Harleyford chandlery excellent - it also stocks items I have not been able to find elsewhere.

How easy is it to get to the Harleyford chandlery? Is there a security barrier, or can any non Harleyford customer drive in?

(Must say didn't know it was there, despite keeping my boat across at Freebody's & living in Henley! Be really handy & much easier than driving to Wargrave)

You will be stopped at the gate, say you want the chandlery and they will give you a little map of how to get to it.
Easy as that.
