Following up the recent thread I have managed to find a UK supplier who is prepared to sell single items by mail order, no minimum order. The company is Tecni-cable, based in Somerset.

See http://www.tecni-lift.co.uk/Products/Crosby-G-335-Missing-Link. Listed under Crosby products or search G335 from the home page. They will carry sufficient stock for the likely numbers required from yacht people, in 8, 10 and 13 mm sizes.

Am I right in supposing the differentiator between Crosbie and the rest is the interlocking half bullets which I assume alleviate some of the shear stress on the rivet posts?

(assuming of course it's not made of slag as mentioned on your site)

All the ones I have seen are of the same design as the Crosby. The difference between the strong ones and the rest is material strength. Chandlery ones are mild steel (or, as you say, slag) slightly better are stainless steel ones but Crosby and a couple of others are made from a heat-treated alloy steel, or maybe a manganese steel. Making up the good ones is quite hard work: it takes several heavy blows from a 2lb hammer to sink the rivets. The soft ones usually go with a single light blow.
