Croatian charter

I've done three in Croatia with Sunsail - 2x flotilla (Split and Dubrovnik) and 1x bareboat (Split). I say "Spilt" but the base was actually at Marina Agana, a few miles out of Split itself and all the better for it.

Been good every time. It's a gorgeous cruising area.

Have chartered out of ACI Split - the company was Euromarine and the charter was arranged through Tubber who act as broker. Tubber are a European based company just like Latesail.

We had a then 2 year old Jeanneau 449 and the whole charter went smoothly and was enjoyable. We paid the deposit by credit card. They send a diver down at the end of the charter to check the underwater sections.

The joy of ACI Split is that it is within walking distance of the old town which is well worthy of exploring, is easy to provision and is no more than an hours transfer from the airport. One downside is that the marina is very tight!!

Do not limit yourself to the ACI marina in Split. Its not very pretty and its a long walk into Split town or you take a water taxi. I would look at chartering from one of the companies that are based in ACI Trogir. Much nicer marina and walking distance to the historic town. From the marina you get a great view across the channel. Also nearer to the airport. As I have visited on my own boat, I cannot recommend a specific charter company. In the area there are marinas at Seget and also Castela who have charter fleets, but ACI Trogir is the nicest. Two things to note is that there is a current running through the marina so when returning, listen to the dock-guy and be aware of the current. The other is that the fuel station is busy on Friday afternoons with returning boats and is very tight to get in and out of. ALso a PITA to wait in the narrow channel. I'd try re-fuelling on a Thursday and at a fuel dock outside of ACI Trogir. Even re-fueling at Seget on the way into Trogir is easier both to queue and to fuel

Not Split itself, but would recommend Croatia Yacht Club (now bought by Dream but still operate with their own staff) and run out of SCT Trogir, which is actually closer to the airport than Split town is. Trogir is beautiful and has a good market/supermarket for provisioning although can be very congested if you try to get into either of the adjacent marinas by vehicle on a Saturday morning/early afternoon as the arrivals and departures gridlock it.

Or, shameless plug, our boat is in charter in Baska Voda, an hour south of Split. It's with a small family run company and the boats (I think 6 total) are exceptionally well looked after. That hour south by road puts you 1-1.5 days worth of sailing south, and puts Korcula/Mljet/Lastovo in reach plus puts you in a spot to get to Brac/Hvar/Peljesac etc ahead of the pack of 1,000 or so boats coming out Split area each Saturday eve/Sunday morning. (And it's quiet and calm to refuel at Makarska on a Friday!). Can put you in touch to share website/or direct booking discount on any of the fleet (not just ours). It's the only charter company between Split and Dubrovnik so you really do get to the spots ahead of the hordes!
