5 minutes ago Croatia get green light to start negotiations with EU. This was last buoy to cross the end line and enter in the area where we belongs.
Celebration starts /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif even is rain here!

Branko. I've spent the last 3 summers pootling up and down the Dalmatian coastline - and beautiful it is too. If you ever join the EU I'm afraid you'll be kissing goodbye to your hard won independence. Having only just regained your sovereignty you'll be throwing it away again.

I must agree - although the EU is a wonderfull mechanism for those of us that prefer to be world rather than country citizens (it allows an EU member free access to all members, and allows you to work in all member states) on the other hand Brussels - which is where the EU head office sits, passes a bunch or really stupid laws. For example - bananas that are to short or to curved are not allowed to be imported!! talk about protectionism. Further the Brussels (sprouts) are all not accountable since they are not voted in!

but then what do I know? (besides the most stupid RCD legislation)

Re: croatia in eu

It'll be good for you.

I, too, love Croatia and the people there. But the administrators will have to be careful to take the 'Latin Countries approach;

'Yes, Mr Brussels, we'll do that. (one day, when we feel like it and it suits us)

NOT the British approach;

'Yes Mr Brussels, we'll do that (plus a whole lot more, to the very letter and as soon as we can. We'll even invent our own regulations to make it even more restrictive and complicated)'

Branko, best of luck to Croatia. The sooner you join us the better.

Ireland and the Irish have found the EU to be superb for our own economy, and very beneficial for the Irish view of the world. Since we joined we have become more outward looking (less insular) and more appreciative of the different cultures we meet in Europe and elsewhere.

My friends and I were sailing in Croatia (Dubrovnik to Korcula and back) the week before last and we all thouroughly enjoyed the country and the people we met. We heartily recommend the Tauris restaurant in Sipanska Luka and issue a major Caveat Emptor for the Cafe Bourbon in Polace on Mljet.

We can't wait to visit Croatia again.

Thanks too all for good wishes. We hope that we shell have almost 10% of Irish progres and will be very happy in that case. We allways take Ireland as a simbol how to do some things.
I am afraid of "over regulation" too, but when you live 50 years in "under regulation", European bureaucracy come like a medicine! ( for some time! )
