We're two middle aged sailors and are in the process of chartering in Croatia for a couple of weeks in August. We're being joined by a couple of teenagers for the last week so it'll need to be a bit more lively then, maybe restaurants and snokelling etc. would like any advice of what part of the coast we might look at.

Where are you chartering from? Croatia is quite long! have some good tips for central / southern, but if you're going from Istria....

Here I be! Just back from two-week cruise from Trieste to Corfu. Stunned by the lack of courtesy of Croatians compared to kindness at Vieste and all points south (sorry, Branko, but it's true - post to follow). Plus the difference in prices. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The Croatian coast is lovely as ever but is already crowded, mostly with charter traffic. Anywhere in Croatia can offer snorkelling and restaurants. Kornati will be very crowded in August and has relatively few anchorages; the Kvarner has a lot of anchorages relatively close together. That's where I'll be in August. If you want the night scene, then Rovigno, Trogir, Kurcula, Dubrovnik, I suppose. Which means marinas at St Tropez prices. If you can say where you'll be departing from, I can be more specific.

We cruised through Croatia in 04 and liked the Sth so much returned in 06. We were in our own boat so didn't charter but I know there are charter companies around Dubrovnik.

From Dubrovnik you can easily reach Lostovo, Korcula, Mljet and the smaller islands in nearer to Dubrovnik. Our preference is to anchor or tie up to private restaurant jetties of which there are plenty in this area. We were there in July and it was not overly crouded, always able to find a place to anchor. Marinas in Dubrovnik and Korcula are likely to be busy in top season. Don't know about teen distractions but I would think Korcula and would have something of interest and certainly Dubrovnik. A side trip to Cavtat, whilst a bit "touristy" is still very pretty and has a wide range of restaurants.
