Croatia any changes

No hear say info please I are only interested in personal experiences from this year cruisers.
You had better ignore http://jimbsail.info/croatia then, since that's a second hand summary of all the posts, links and official documents I could find on the subject.
And I needn't bother to respond as this year I stayed close to Italy and Slovenia and not venturing into Croatian waters after many years of cruising there - even though I have quizzed many skippers returning from there in my Italian marina and followed every published report from official Croatian sources plus the many German sailing organisations' reports on the subject of what changes there are since accession and what can be expected in 2014.

We found the check out, check in procedure just the same as before, except that they were no longer interested in a crew list. Italy wasn't interested either in or out. Croatia still very sticky and silly about checking in at the first geographic port of entry even if you didn't stop there. They were not happy with us checking in at Sibenik having left Italy at Venice.

Also in early July there was a patrol boat stopping boats at the gates of Split and checking all docs including VAT status. All very friendly but I hadn't seen that before. Not sure whether they just checked foreign flagged ones like us or Croation flagged too.

This is why I avoided Croatia this year. You will not have seen it before as it is incumbent on new members to check all EU-registered craft for VAT status, which should be completed by next year. There will be no vignette costs in 2014 but all other dues, including the Sejourn tax, remain, so declaring in to pay those will still be in effect.

Edit:
Whoops, ignore that last sentence ... the OP instructions dictate only "personal experiences from this year cruisers".

Jim , what I was asking for was first hand info , a lot of the info on your site is first hand coming from people who sail that area and not info from a friend of a friend who sail the area three years ago . Which as far as I am concern is as Much good as not having it at all .
Re Croatia and my posting here , Croatia has most of us know have just entered the EU so posting saying this and that from before July is worthless to any one thinking of sailing there next season .

Ooer - are you sailing in EU but not VAT paid? Or is there something else you wouldn't want inspected?

Nothing so exciting and interesting. My UK, Pt I registered boat was built in 1981 and so conforms to 'deemed VAT-paid' criterion of pre-1985 build and I have full documentation to prove that. Despite it's entire life in Holland before my purchase in 2005, I have no proof of that - viz. in the EU in 1992, the second requirement for VAT exemption. No other EU country has queried that second criterion, least of all Italy where I am currently moored. However, my experience of Croatian bureaucracy and pedantic obsession in pecuniary matters, made me cautious - some have said paranoiac - and so I decided to let this accession year pass before returning.
