am considering joining
there are about 14 boats in the northwales area registered on cruising page ( i would be looking here cos if we the weather is bad and we donot go i can bail out to the house instead)

it is 75 squid for a year and before turning over the hard earned i am interested anyone's opinions on them. was considering going after cruising and racing weekends and possible week trip Mrs s2b permitting.
i know there are other sites, but has anyone actually ever got regular sailing trips ( solent excluded) from any of these but crewseekers in partic?

</font color=red>Ok brain let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer.

i took advantage of the 'free registration for owners'. i was offering berths to the caribbean so would have expected lots of demand. i only got one call which was someone wanting uk day sailing. don't know if it's better if you pay the fee. i did once meet a guy on passage who had got his berth through them.

this could mean (a) there are more owners than crew, (b) you don't get nothing unless you pay for it or (c) it's a dead loss. your pick!

I had a similar experience as an owner - advertised for X type of sailing and only got replies for Y type of sailing. Took three attempts to get my details removed from their database.

the ideal crew profile is a female nymphomaniac who can cook, helm, fend and tie a bowline in a crisis.

then again whose isn't??

When I was looking for crew I found some useful people through them, but I have discovered that I'd rather choose my own company on other grounds than sailing competance, (or otherwise), so I sold the boat and am looking for smaller.

A delivery company I have skippered for (one of the larger ones) use crewseekers for all there crew positions except skipper. So there should be some opportunities out there, though maybe not day sailing like you say.

Re: Try this free crewfinder

Well whilst I would find 75 quid too much to pay crewfinder is not much use if you want to sail from UK in my experience.
If you want crewing lists and forums there are loads here:

I'm Liverpool-based and never saw anything interesting and local on Crewseekers in the two years I was registered with them. But I was using Crewseekers for longer distance trips: I could find all the racing I wanted, from round the cans to Sigma Nationals and Fastnet-qualifier offshore races at Liverpool Yacht Club.

Am I missing something here? If it's local sailing for local people you want, why not join a Local Yacht Club?
