Crewsaver lifejacket

I am after a number of sensible life jackets for family use on a small open boat. Not having ready access to a wide range of makes to try on, can someone rate the Crewsaver lifejacket here on Ebay

Cannot help with the actual item, but no matter where you buy make sure the 'replace by' date on the mechanism gives you a fair amount of time (years..). Re-arm kits can be purchased but at a price

Over here Aldi are selling Laliza's Sigma from next Saturday at £46 so the eBay price seems about right.

I have visited the Crewsaver in Gosport and can tell you that they are well made products and tested. Well recommended but it is most important that you get the right size as they come in different buoyancies. You also have to decide on either automatic or manual firing, this can depend on the type of boating you do - for example an auto lifejacket can go off if you are in rough seas in a rib.......

auto,+straps,brand name, #50.. seems pretty ok deal.
As someone else says, maybe not so good if the "expiry" date on the cylinders is next week

Properly designed jackets won't inflate until actually in the water. Shouldn't inflate due to sea spray, rain etc.

About buoyancy:

The 100N lifejacket is for those who may have to wait for rescue but are likely to be in sheltered, calm water. It may not have sufficient buoyancy to protect someone who is unable to help himself or herself and may not roll an unconscious person on to his or her back, particularly someone in heavy clothing.


The 150N lifejacket is for general use on coastal and inshore waters when sailing and fishing. It is intended for general offshore and rough-weather use when a high standard of performance is required. It should turn an unconscious person onto his or her back and requires no subsequent action by the wearer to keep his or her face out of the water. Its performance may be affected if the user is wearing heavy and/or waterproof clothing.


The 275N lifejacket is recommended for offshore cruising, fishing and commercial users. It is intended primarily for extreme conditions and for those wearing heavy protective clothing that may adversely affect the self-righting capacity of other lifejackets. It is designed to ensure that the wearer is floating in the correct position with his or her mouth and nose clear of the surface of the water.
