Crew rescued in Med, after boat sinks

That can be a very nasty area if the wx kicks up! we were out in a 50 foot motor cruiser in that area last August when the wx cut up rough, 2-3 metre swells and it really is not nice! thing is it does get rough very quickly.

yeah fair enough a Force 6 to 7 is not nice, but 3 metres height wave can be handled pretty well with a 40 footer
I think the sinking happened for lack of maintenance or hitting something floating on the water, unless you dont continue going at 30 knots in this kind of weather....

I doubt whether the weather was a factor in this sinking. Although the weather can be nasty anywhere in the Med, a 44ft mobo ought to be able to deal with 2-3m swells. IMHO, there was probably some other reason for the sinking eg failed seacock or hitting a submerged object
The Spanish coastguard is not anywhere near the standard of the UK coastguard in terms of emergency response so I take the view that you're on your own in an emergency there. I carry 2 liferafts and an EPIRB which I check regularly. Seems that in this case the EPIRB didn't function correctly which is not v good considering the skipper was supposed to have 20yrs experience
