Luckily all were rescued safely. However, the report says their boat went down in less than a minute - this is distressing to hear. Next time you're on board, try giving yourselves a sixty second drill! It certainly makes liferaft ownership seem appealing.

How awful, that would be an exceptionally scary experience. Does anyone know what made the boat sink in the first place?

The boat caught fire 5 miles out.
They jumped overboard but he grabbed the epirb and the helicopter was there very quickly.

The epirb saved their lives, not the icebox IMHO.

The icebox would not have been thrown over to save their lives, any self respecting Aussie would have saved the beer first!

True, by the time you've agreed payscales, holiday, pensions contributions and all the other ToE stuff it could take hours.

On a more serious note peeps
I strongly recommend the RYA Sea Survival course (or any similar) bloody seriously makes you aware of how sh&t happens and what you can or cannot do about it
Note to oneself
