Hi,
I would appreciate another crew or two for a trip from Suffolk Yacht Harbour, (near Felixstowe) down to Portsmouth. Planning on leaving at 6pm this Friday. This is a private request so you have to fund your own transport and share of grub but you get some good sea miles and experience.

that a good deal then, brace yerself for the rush

Dear Bob,if it`s a "private request",you can still pay the crew`s transport and food- by limo, and eating out in 5 star hotels if you wish. Just thought I`d point that out, cheers Jerry.

Your "private request" must have had a fair few number of people clamouring to crew for you due to your financial generosity and the offer of all those sea miles? :D

No responses from this source but after your comments perhaps not surprising. Anyway,we did do it (just the two of us) and it was a bit exciting (where we could have used another pair of hands) on the Saturday once we rounded north foreland. I'm a bit surprised by your comments because some people charge good money for doing just such a trip. Maybe you all have your own boats so going sailing is easy but for those who don't, it can make sense. I've been happy to pay for it in the past on what was essentially just a delivery trip for the owner.

Nothing to do with my comments at all. The other people responded in a similar vein.

I think you will find, if you re-read your original message, that you came across as a bit harsh in your original message stating " . . you have to fund your own transport and your share of grub". You could have ameliorated and softened your tone by saying something like, " sadly I cannot afford to pay anything towards expenses or towards your food".

The train fare from Portsmouth to Felixstowe (single) is something like £70 and that is a big chunk of money for a two day trip of about 170 miles.
