My Vancouver 27 (small but perfectly formed) is presently in Portimao Marina on the Algarve. I'm sailing her back to UK departing Portimao Sunday 26th May in 2 or possibly 3 legs. My son is crewing for me as far as Bayona (NW Spain) but is jumping ship before the Biscay passage due to work commitments. Although I'm perfectly capable of completing the trip singlehanded I just prefer sailing with a companion.
Would anyone be interested in joining me/us either from Portimao (Faro airport) for the whole trip or for just the Biscay crossing from Bayona (Santiago Compostela airport). The Vancouver 27 has 3 permanent berths in a single cabin although in all honesty it is cramped with 3 but perfectly doable! I'll pay all boaty expenses including fuel, food, marina etc. you will need to pay your one way travel costs plus any onshore expenses including meals eaten ashore.
I'm a reasonably experienced skipper (8 Transats plus the rest) but for personal reasons which i'll explain to anyone expressing an interest, prefer to sail with a crew. I'm easy going, not wealthy, no strange habits (my wife may disagree) and fairly normal I think! You should be fairly ditto. I'm mid 60's but normally get on with any age crew.
Whilst vast sailing experience would be useful, it's not all important! So long as you're familiar with Colregs and you're sensible enough (and not too proud) to call me if I'm off watch whenever you're anxious about a potential situation unfolding on your watch, that's all I require from a crew.
For a small boat she is comprehensively equipped for offshore passage making including Aries (as well as autopilot) self steering, full instrumentation including chartplotter and AIS. All normal safety equipment. She's well maintained. I'm not a sailing purist and if the winds not playing ball am happy to fire up the engine to assist progress! I'm a non-smoker but smoking by crew in the cockpit is fine. Galley chores shared equally and as i'm a rubbish cook you shouldn't be too sniffy about food, a liking for FB pies is a definite asset.
