Hello all!
My name is Sophie and my partner Patrick and I are looking for a crewing opportunity on a westbound transatlantic voyage in 2011/2012.
We are both novice crewmembers, but I have experience living on a sailboat and sailing small (17-foot and under) vessels.
We are currently travelling in Spain as volunteers and visitors on farms and communities, doing our best to learn about sustainable ways of life and contribute to the world.

A little about us:

Sophie!
American
20 years old
Student at Brown University, Urban Studies Department
Favorite color is purple
Enjoys reading novels and newspapers

Patrick!
Canadian
28 years old
Luthier/Carpenter
Enjoys cooking Indian food
Interests include history, politics, and chess

We are very eager to learn about cruising and are willing to do any sort of work needed for a transatlantic passage. We are also willing to compensate for our travel expenses. We're laid-back, easygoing, and hard workers accustomed to adapting to new situations and excited to try something new.

Please respond if interested!

Thanks!
Sophie and Patrick

---EDIT---

Upon further research, I realize I need some help on where to look. If you happen to know of any useful forums for people who need volunteer crew members, or any particular website to refer to, I'd be much obliged if you posted it here! thanks!

Hello. Good luck with the search for crew placements. You may find it hard getting someone to take you on given that you are not 'qualified' to at least competent crew level - however qualifications are dependent upon the job and there are many opportunities for cooks or even just people just looking for company on crossings. Try looking at the following sites, and googling 'sailing crew' or similar:

http://www.crewfinders.com/index.shtml
http://www.findacrew.net/secure-server/eng/search/search_boat.asp
http://www.crewseekers.net/sailingopp.aspx
http://www.floatplan.com/crew.htm
http://www.crewfile.com/boat_jobs.html

Hope this helps :)

What`s a "Luthier" then Patrick? Out of curiosity, ain`t got a berth for you, just wondered, cheers Jerry.

A luthier is someone who makes and repairs stringed instruments.
The craft of luthier is commonly divided into two main categories: stringed instruments that are plucked or strummed, and those that are bowed.
Plucked or strummed instruments consist of the auto harp, sitar, banjo where as bowed instruments consist of the chelo, fiddle, volin and many more. Bowed instruments always require a bow in order to play the insturment.

A carpenter is a skilled worker who makes, finishes, and repairs wooden objects and structures. Carpenters can work on various wooden objects from delicate musical instruments like guitars to beautiful custom made antique furniture

The difference between a luthier and a carpenter is the fact that a carpenter can bring a wide range of different wood work techniques in the overall creation of a guitar.
