Going to our first 'AGM' of the boat share group we have just joined. Lots to talk about including where to move the boat to in 2006; a new passarel; how the hell do you turn on the Yeoman plotter; what is that smell? But the bit that is really bothering me is the cockpit cushions. Could have been chosen by Trinny and Susannah. I insist that they must have been a cheap job lot which no-one will be attached to but SWMBO urges caution. Do esteemed forumites have any suggestions on how I might broach this subject with minimum offence? Anyone have any experience in the Diplomatic Corps? Fererro Roche? Jimi always seems to have an answer but I reckon the one area political correctness has yet to penetrate is the universal acceptance that cushions are a woman/gay thing. Which puts me in the closet needing a woman's help.

They were presumably on the boat when you looked at it prior to joining the syndicate. I think that the most diplomatic thing to do is to simply not worry about such a trivial thing as cockpit cushions. If this worries you so much then perhaps boat sharing isn't really for you.

Say nothing. Next season claim your were swamped off St Alban's - St Catherine's - Alderney - whatever and they were swept overboard while you were attempting to aid a yacht in even more trouble than you were. Diplomacy at its best is pragmatic expediency - the final aim is not to be caught out.

Usual course of action is to chuck up all over them, then tow 'em behind for a few miles to clean them, that should sort out pattern noise

But wouldn't that be rather rude - not sure that bad taste in cushions deserves quite such a draconian response.

Not at all, it saved the bunks and you'll never invite the projectile vomiter sailing again. and fray bentos is definitely off the menu!
