Alas, since Shamby has had so little use, the Sea toilet seems to have a slight malfunction.

It's a hand pump model, where you pump water in from the Sea, or in my case Thames, and then flick a lever and pump it into the holding tank.

It pumps out just fine, but doesn't fill, so we use it by pouring water in from a spare kettle.

The boat is three years old, and has only done 30 odd hours, and the toilet is a Jabsco manual version.

Is this just a quick strip, clean grease and refit of the pump, or a big problem?

Thanks for you help /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Start by just taking the top of the pump and give the rubber valve/gasket a good clean. If the inlet seacock is open properly then a few vigorous pumps should get it working. The whole things is fairly straightforward. Exploded diagrams on the Jabsco website if you need them.

Failing this then a new inlet pipe might be due but it seems a bit soon for that.

Well for a start, I'd thow down some of that special toilet stuff, or failing that. Some cooking oil. Then pump like hell. Repete.

If that dont work, strip it and replace valves, easy and cheap to do.

Tis the spring you need. Our's had exactly the same fault, developed very soon after purchase. Jabsco sent us a spring. In the meantime we got used to the positive benefits of fresh water flushing!

OK, 5 minutes undoing six screws on the pump handle housing, followed by a quick wipe with a paper towel, followed by a good hard blow down the inlet pipe (Heard bubbles outside, so knew it wasn't blocked) and reassembled it to find it working perfectly.

Didn't look bad, just a bit too grubby to seal on the flappy valve gadget.

£0 to repair, can't be bad!
