a possibility that I'll be trailering a 1 ton 20ft boat from Dartmouth to Plymouth for a forumite presently weather-bound.

Any addresses or recommendations for club or private cranes to lift and place twin keel sailboat onto my trailer at both places, please ?

Even a friendly big Hi-Ab ?

thanks

thanks C, I need the boat lifted on to a flatbed trailer - though that's an idea: it might be possible to hire a car transport one that tilts and loads. Have a virtual coffee and biscuits. :)

Plymouth could try http://www.plymouthshorestore.co.uk/

Cranes : none to mind at Dartmouth, other than Baltic Wharf at Totnes

I think Blackness Marine only have a tractor unit for lifts? But you could ring them and ask?

Blackness will definitely be able to lift it for you. True, they don't use a crane, but they have a variety of different methods. They can WISE hoist it then transfer to their large forklift-type machine in order to put it on your trailer. They are immensely skilful and careful with your boat. Highly recommended.

There is a also big boat hoist at Darthaven Marina (01803 752242) on the Kingswear side of the River Dart and also one at MDL's Dartisde Quay (01803 845445) at Galmpton, a little further up the River Dart, where they also have a slip and a smaller mobile boat hoist that may be able to help you. At the latter, you will need to check the tidal height as the creek dries out. Blackness Marine at Dittisham is probably your best bet. There is a slipway beside the Higher Ferry at Dartmouth and a small slip next to the Royal Dart YC at Kingswear, both will involve dues payable to Dart Harbour, details on www.dartharbour.org under Landings and Slipways.
