I am looking at two boats, either
---1992 Cranchi Endurance 35 with 230hp KAD42
---1989 Sunseeker Tomahawk with 200hp AQAD41A.

The Sunseeker is about £5,000 more expensive than the Cranchi, and with smaller engines too....

I am worried that these "Med style" boats might not be brilliant in the more blowy days we can get in the UK.

Anyone got experience of these boats?

Common theme appears to be 'Sunseekers have the best hulls in the world' but will I notice the difference or are we talking about 5% difference at the extreme...that I won't use anyway?? Or will the Cranchi be that much more wayward when the wind picks up and I have to slow it down a shade?

PS Anyone know of cheap diesel Tomahawks for sale?

Hi Stefan
I have a tomahawk with diesels, very pleased with the way its put together. Good solid boat. Big sunpad not much use here in the UK coz we never have any sun but kids like it for fishing off
Maybe get a bow thruster coz the bow can be a bit wayward when its windy

If you are thinking of doing a BrendanS and tuffing it out in all weathers then yer SS is the boat for you.

Personally, although I like the look of both, I prefer the look of the SS over the Cranchi. Thats because the SS looks like a proper boat (IMHO). I have my reservations on the more slab sided style boats, but they are roomier inside.

Go on - cough up the extra 5 and get the Sunseeker /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Stefan,

Sunseeker great in good weather, has a cuddy cabin but cuts through the waves with ease. Cranchi is the better hull but the cockpit and cabin a bit of a compromise. Personnaly I would go for the Cranchi as the Kad 42 are the better development of the engine.

IMHO, I would say that the Sunseeker is the sportier hull, and the Cranchi whilst still sporty has a better and stronger layup. These are just my impressions though, as i have spent time on both boats but never owned either.

Cheers

You are on the right track. From experience the Cranchi felt more 'surefooted' in the bigger swell. Whilst the Tomahawk is also a great boat it always felt better in a flat calm than in a building sea. The sunseeker is very capable of handling the rough stuff, and seemed to leap from wave to wave. I just felt more reasured in the Cranchi. As with all boats it is a compromise. Both boats are capable, I just prefered the handling of the Cranchi. The Sunseeker does turn in quick and really grips the water! The Cranchi takes more time to turn in and I did not feel like I was on a rollercoaster ride hanging on for life.

What are you going to use her for? If it is you and the Kids and SWMBO going cruising then I would go for the Cranchi. If you just want to play around on nice days then the Tomahawk is a great fun boat.

As I have said I have never owned either but spent a lot of time on these boats out in Menorca where the wind and waves can blow up quick!

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for that...brilliant feedback. I am after a 40knot-ish fun (diesel) weekender for the East Coast for SWMBO and I, both 30-somethings.

I would go for the Sunseeker cos it's a Sunseeker but kinda like the cabin in the (cheaper/newer) Cranchi because the bed isn't in the bow... just want to be sure That either way I am not getting something not comfortably up for those windy East Coast weekends!!!

Whilst I may get thoroughly flamed for this, I would reccomend the Cranchi, whilst the ss37 is one of the last Sunseekers not to crack on a regular basis, its layup is still not as nicely done as the Cranchi, and although some would argue a prettier boat, far harder and more expansive to live with in the long run.

The Cranchi will out perform the Sseeker you mention, all the T37s with the 200s I have worked have barely managed 33knts.

Either way both lovely vessels, and I envy you the choice.
All the very best with your hunting.

If you saw how the Cranchi hulls are made vs the Seeker, you'd choose the Cranchi, I am talking about the production process here only not the design. The cranchi process is far more impressive.

For absolutely no logical reason what so ever I'd have the sunseeker.

Just thought of a reason - It's got a radar arch.

Mooring costs may be an issue with the sunseeker being bigger so possibly more expensive to park
