cracked porthole glass

I was interested to read all the ways offered to help 'Castletine' to clean his old brass portholes, but the main problem with my old portholes is the cracked glass, and siezed threaded rings, which prevent me from removing the glass for replacement. Does anyone know how to tackle this, or of a firm in the UK who could be entrusted with the work?

If you take the porthole out and then soak it in WD40 it will eventually unscrew. Local glass merchant will cut new piece for about £5.

Thanks for the advice. WD40 has done the trick. They weren't anything like as dificult as I expected, but I did have to make a tool to help twist them out. I haven't bought the glass yet, but the hard part is over. I don't know why I didn't have the confidence to try, but I thought they would be much more stubborn, and I didn't want to spoil them.
Some advice for anyone else thinking of trying the same thing:- Watch out for the threaded rings - they are quite delicate once they're out, and can easily be distortrd.
