After not visiting my boat for a couple of weeks, I went today to find a infestation of minute red crabs swarming over the outside and in the cockpit area. Has anyone any idea of what they may be (apart, of course, from little red crabs), and the best way to get rid of them?
They are about a millimeter long and leave a nasty red stain when you crush them with your finger.

Thanks.

sure they are crabs, sounds like the infestation of tiny red spiders which has already been discussed on one of the other forums here.

I had a problem with tiny black book mites walking round inside my boat. I took some drastic action since SHMBO refused to go on board until I got rid of the pests.

I got a nice selection of bug killers. Made a can holder which held the nozzle on. Left them to empty themselves. It made a bit of a mess but it cured the bug problem!

Seemed to work!

The big tip here is that without doubt. the 'crack' bug killer worked best. One application lasts for weeks. Dont bother spraying the air like I did, just get into the small hiding places and corners with the extension nozzle.

I like your gadget. In Australia they sell aerosols which function as your clamps did but vent vertically rather than horizontally. A can is sufficient for a large room in a house so perhaps next time lay the can on it's side facing the ceiling and 1/2 a can or less should be more than enough.
