Have a standard horizon cp 180i 2006 model. Just in case I am doing some thing silly before I send it off, when switched on will not acquirer a gps signal. worked fine before. Unit has had little use before this year. Once on gps status have no menu to turn gps on or off or check status. Is the gps build in the set or on the power lead. Thank you in advance for any input.

The GPS is built into the plotter. I don't understand your comment re GPS status - you should be able to see the satellite status in the GPS Status page. It is possible to turn the internal GPS on or off in the GPS Set-up page, so it would be worth looking to see whether you've accidentally turned it off.

The 'i' in the model number indicates that it has an integral GPS aerial.

How long have you left it powered up for, if not used for a time, GPS gets a bit grumpy and takes some time to initialise.

Before sending it off leave it powered for at least 24 hrs, also have a chat with SH tech staff, they are incredibly helpful.

Thanks for quick replies, have looked at manual lots of times when going onto gps status and then pressing ENT nothing happens. Have never seen a on / off display for gps.setup menu works fine but with no gps on /off button. I know I have internal gps model, what is barrel shaped thing on power lead 3" back from connector.will keep looking on display.

That's a ferrite thingy, suppresses rf interference, nothing to do with GPS per se.

Without getting all techie the barrel thing is an interference suppressor.

On the GPS setup page if you press and hold ENT you will get GPS setup. First setting is for internal/external GPS. Is it on external? Next is restart GPS so if it's on internal try a restart.

Another thought, where is the unit located. Could something be blocking the signal? It will work below deck but not if there is too much obscuring the sky.
