Anyone else a bit disappointed? Started off great but just didn't seem to live up to expectations gained over the last few years. I heard they got a big sponsor too.

BUT, some did seem to go off a bit low & shower the fleet with sparks.

Perhaps they cut the show short. Anyone got an inside track?

I watched from the Hamble side so did not get full effect, but there it did not seem to "flow" as well as previous years. There seemed to be a number of pauses between sets.

The problem with this years foreworks was that you needed to be listening to the local radio to get the full effect. The pauses were during specific bits of the dialogue, and with the radio it all became quite clear. The actual amount of fireworks was much more than normal, but it was structured very differently. Biggest problem with the radio broadcast was that they didnt actually say when the display ended. There wasnt the normal build up to a crescendo, and there wasnt a durface display showing that it had ended. It just seemed to fade out. Did get some good photos though.

I am sure aomething went wrong - there were two bangs and then nothing for several minutes - reckon that the computer sequence went wrong.
Next evening we were in Swanage for the end of regatta fireworks - they were much more impressive than those at Cowes

That was our first "fireworks cruise" ... ok - quick dash from Chichester and back again ...
Was interesting seeing the lots of different interpretations on anchor lights - from full Nav lights & steeming lights to anchor light and deck nav lights ... luckily we were sensible enough to realise they were anchored!!
It was just as amussing to watch a yacht motoring back - eastwards, with his anchor light and nav lights on ....
The wayfarer sailing back (I assume towards Lee-on-S) with just a light on the main was brave!!
We only had 1 near "incident" when we were (as far as we were concerned) being used as target practice by a large mobo just b4 portsmouth, our big torch lit up his bridge and he altered course for us ... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Fireworks were ok, but did expect a bit more - they were all fairly low and not as impressive as the traf200 ones off portsmouth, but then we were much closer to those!

I heard.....

...from the skipper of a committee boat that "an individual" stumped up £30K+ out of his own pocket this year to augment the display.

Suspect that he will be asking some serious questions as to what his money was spent on

Agreed, Swanage was superb. Got a few photos, but only uploaded one so far:
