I took potential boat buyer out on Sunday for a longer than usuall sea trial, up to the Needles and down to Cowes, as we approached the 2 channel buoyes I slowed right down to tickover speed which still gave 6 knots, and explained to them about the recent warnings about the HM checking speeds of vessels etc and the probability of a fine, so in we pootled , I was pointing out the various Marinas and places of interest, as they are new to the Solent and intend to keep the boat at Lymington for a few months.

On we travelled past the Yacht haven, I said theres the HM in his launch, we wont get any bother from him at this speed, as we said it some ... came by us about 10 knots and loads of wash, passed the HM and kept going, the HM never even looked at him.

So the question is why has this speeding thing been so hyped up for literally no reaction by them who did it ? I wonder, I shall soon be boatless at least on the Southcoast for a while so I shall leave it up to the rest of you...... hopefully not to get caught!.

I know how you feel, I was in Cowes last Saturday and like you had noted the Radar Gun comments. There I was expecting to see someone with a gun only to find nothing and a few creating far more wash than I.

They need something on the Itchen River, again following the 6knot limit, a Rib planing passes by doing probably 15knots+.
