Just given Day 1 of my first PB Level 2 course. Stood in for a sick instructor at very short notice so didnt have time to panic.

Then at the last minute the Chief Instructor says "Oh - its an own-boat course" as he rushes out the door. (do all chief instructors always rush????)

Slight concern about being in some dilapidated wreck /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif is dissipated when the clients arrive in a brand new (2.4 engine hours) Four Winns. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

20 odd feet. 300 horse power. Very tasty............ /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

And to make matters better for me - they had almost no idea what to do with it so we started from scratch. Which I am sure is easier than someone who has a lifetime of bad habits (like I had when I first went to Mendez Marine to do my Instructors Course. ).

And they were a really great couple of guys - so with 80 degrees of wall to wall sunshine, a new boat capable of perhaps 50 kts and 3 happy chaps --- we had a blast! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(Why am I so knackered though???) /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You'll learn! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It will be like that after every course. You can't rest for a second and in many ways you work harder than the students. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

An hour and a half of unconsciousness on the settee seems to have improved things Solitaire. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

An instructor never sleeps: he rests.
There are two ways of doing things: the wrong way and the instructors' way

and so on. We printed a whole litany of those on the sail training instructors' T-shirts

Or - "an instructor never makes mistakes - simply turns them into teaching points!!" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nicely put, experienced that at a VHF course, made everyone laugh but the point was certainly remembered /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well the course all over now. Almost a memory! Loved every minute of it.

However, after 30 odd years of doing not-very-enjoyable-but-lucrative work, doing 2 days of something that I love was just a wonderful way to earn a few more pennies........

I am not ashamed to say that I used Solitaires standard phrase to my students as we left Lagos Marina on their boat in 80 degrees of sunshine.
