Couple of mouse clicks ! Carbon Monoxide ....

blunt legislation which serves - what purpose?
Legislation and Compliance are two ends of a shitty stick.
Could save the NHS/ MAIB a fortune and stops a very busy policeman from having to bang on a fathers/wifes/husbands/brothers/daughters door at some god forsaken hour with some heart breaking life changing news ?
All for the sake of not fitting a small plastic box with few coppers worth of electronics inside.

How many inland cabin boats are there in the UK,how many deaths have been attributed to what this petition wants and what is it as percentage?
Also why only inland craft?
Seems you are pushing for yet more legislation that won't apply to a huge number of boats in the UK.

The speeding laws have been long established but we seem unable to achieve compliance and many a policeman has had the task of breaking the bad news to the relatives of a victim of a speeding motorist probably many more than the victims of CO. However, I do accept that deaths caused by motorists are more socially acceptable.

No mandated requirement to fit in land dwellings yet this single issue fantastic petition wants to introduce for in,and waterway boats.

Needs much more thought.

8000 boats on the Thames another 1800 on the Medway.
Have no idea how many on other inland waterways throughout the United kingdom.
Not all will be with enclosed cabins of course.

The legislation hopefully would also cover similar accommodations such as static caravans/boats and motorhomes.
As with cigarettes and drink driving a few much derided voices in the wilderness started the ball rolling.

What do the voices tell you when you are sat in a Thames lock next to some old sea boat that's never seen a BSS examination in its life and just self certifies at Teddington?
How dangerous is that?:)

Whilst Oldgit seems to have made it so far without his CO output killing many people up in our neck of the woods, I would suggest that a lock isn't going to be an issue. More importantly, people are dying due to CO poisoning for the sake of a tenner.

All arguments considered, this is ten pounds for a CO alarm which lasts 8-10 years.

Who would find this an issue? :ambivalence:

Don't forget the poor people who cook in tents!
