On BBC4 there was a prog called The Need for Speed. Petrol heads only need to apply. All about hydroplane racing in the states. Power was awesome using 2000hp Merlin engines liberated from ww2 Mustangs. Wouldn't have been complete without Bluebird on Coniston water and the battle between the US and UK for the record.
Also in depth look at Slo Mo Schun. The Gold cup/speed record hydro plane designed by one of Boeing's designers. Unusual for the yanks to apply science instead of cubic inches. Kept me amused for an hour!
The other prog was on UKTV History about the PT Boats used in the Phillipens and Vietnam. More about their role in the wars than the boats themselves. Still an interesting prog tho and added meat to the bones of articles like the one in MBM a while back.
Some good footage of the boats in action and the way they were used in conjunction with the helio's. No doubt being UKTV Hist they'll repeat it on a fair few occasions. Its part of the Combat at Sea series which in itself is compelling viewing.
