Am used to very late nights and early mornings it is the job I do, but last night an exceptionally clear sky at about 0330 in the East I saw the very faint beginnings of today but in the NW it was still slightly light. Was I being tricked by something else. Cornwall BTW.
Curious,
Keith

moonrise at Truro on the 1st was 0200 and nearly 45% full - that might explain the E glow, but surely too late for any trace of sunset ?

Camborne School of Mining's end of year party, perhaps ?

I once saw the sun rise twice. 'Twas on a motorbike heading for a ferry in France: up over an arched-bridge the sun momentarily rose then set, then up the road it rose again and stayed up this time.

I once had two shadows. 'Twas walking early one morning on the Downs: the sun was just rising as the full moon was setting low in the sky, and the lie of the land suddenly revealed two shadows of almost equal tone.

:)

Quite common up here this time of year on clear nights. I've seen nights when it doesn't get really get dark and there is still some light in the sky before sunrise but I'm a lot further north than you.

Its a bit better here in Caithness, and in Shetland its known as the "Simmer Dim". It simply doesnt get dark. You can go about in the middle of the night just as you would in daytime. Folks have midnight sports events etc, just for the hell of it! The winters are dark though, soooo very dark and long.
Didnt think you'd be seeing it in Cornwall mind, but you never know.

That brings back a distant memory! I remember servicing equipment on top of a high counter. It decided to use it's gear chain to climb up my tie. I had to climb over the counter, complete with machine, to reach the plug. Any longer & the stalled motor would have burnt out, necessitating a 400 mile trip at 30 mph. (No motorways then).

Checked out everyone's answers and they don't fit what I saw, in fact saw the same last night. The E sky is a known but the NW is new to me, took a rough bearing and within 1.5 miles it is over the sea and heading towards Wales etc.
