I see that 3 yachts this week collided with chains on the chain ferry at low tide. I hope there is no deep draft motor boat that hits the chains or that will be end of there props.

I stopped updating on the chain ferry but....

They had to tighten the chains so it got higher up the ramp and cars could get off. Who would have though more yachts would hit the chains!

It's now got a noisy abatement order thing at night time as it's too noisy for people living there

It's only doing foot passengers after a certain time in the evening.

Really not good and as a caulkhead, a bloody embarrassment!

I've used it a couple of times and have been happy with the experience, both times on foot. It did not strike me as noisy, nor could we hear it at East Cowes Marina. I have been careful passing on Rafiki, giving a very wide berth.

I used last Tuesday for the first time
It was about half an hour after high water
Crossing from From East to West
What struck me was the proximity to the Houses on the Port side as we approached the 'Terminus', how close they are to a large Spring Tide, plus I thought 'Bleedin eck, the 'Ferry Noises' might intrude somewhat on some occasions'
Could not go back that way on Wednesday
Had a bleedin big RIB behind by then
Ended up in Yarmouth but that is another Tale!
The Chap with Me when we traveled on the Ferry said- 'How do boats not hit the Chains'?
'They have got it sussed these 'Islanders'- I replied! . Not knowing what the 'F' I was talkin about but I had to look and sound cool and knowledgeable, innit!
My friend with me is a Builder, it was funny as we were just approaching to 'disembark', He too noticed how close the Houses on the Port side where so close to the water. There was a Person sat on the front door step of the House nearest the water where the ferry docks. Just chilling out (as Islanders do, I know, I am one!) My friend said to me' Cripes, on a big tide that House must get flooded'
I had no answer
Does/ would that House get wet inside?
Locals, please do tell so I can tell My Buddy, He was So concerned!

Ditto, but substitute Intraventure for Rafiki :-)

Pix are of the old bridge, new one has large fenders
in front of the houses on the upriver side. The noise when the ramp hits the road is v loud.
All it needs is something to stop the ramp acting like a giant sound board
And some cushioning where it hits the road. Why is it taking so long to fix it?

The dramatic reduction of navigable depth in a town that lives by the spending of the yotties is right up there with the mayor of Amity's decision to reopen the beaches after the first couple of shark attacks.
