Cote d'Azur Spot the Boat

Blimey that's a long lens. The little yellow buoys in the foreground of 9/12/13 give away that you're on the beach at Theoule yet the islands look very close. They're actually about 4 miles away

6+7 are Rizzardi Posillipo Technema, an 82 i think, one of Italy's uglier boats alas

4/17 with Palm beach in the background looks like poster Wakeup (!) and 2/17, La Rague Marina, is Littleship from N Wales
 
Any idea what no 3 is? i thought it was the James Bond yacht but wrong colour.

Bang on as always, La Rague. Not a big lens, using a Lumix TZ10

Dunno what #3 is. Zillions of near-classic 90 foot ketches exist. Ref James Bond, do you mean Casino Royale? That was a Spirit 54, a thing of total beauty made in Ipswich right next to the Fairline shed in Ipswich Yacht Haven where my boat was commissioned

Yes that't the one. I think we saw it in Ville French one afternoon on BH. I have the pics somewhere.

Yes the axshull James Bond boat was in Cote D'Azur for a while and berthed on Mole sud 4 doors to the right of my old berth. Maybe 2008 or 2009; I can't remember
 
Pictures 6 and 7 is a Possillipo 80 Technema.
Designed by Zuccon. Don't agree is ugly but to each his own, but that is why the cows meat gets sold all. The 82 and 87 Technema (wide body series where strange), but whatever motor yacht design has a lot to give to Posillipo, and Zuccon as the 1985 launched 52 Technema was widely copied by everyone, and is the parent of all motor yachts since then.
Picture 15 looks a Riva 86 Domino to me. But the picture is far and is a bit unfocused.
Picture 16, is a Benetuea 47 Monte Carlo.
Picture 10, Sunseeker 60 Manhattan.
Picture 8, Princess 42, looks the new Mk.II version (larger longer lower saloon window) to me.

Oh yes, for sure. You see the daft cut away transom with passerelle hanging on a goalpost bracket, radar arch half missing (on the later 52s), the galley down layout and the inverse hull side rake (a version of tumblehome, except forward part of the boat...) pretty universally on modern motoryachts, all thanks to Technema

Schooner can take many forms, whereas a ketch is only like your picture (and the mizzen mast must be ahead of the rudder stock to qualify it as a ketch. If the mizzen mast were futher aft it wouuld be a yawl). Generally however, tallest mast is not the forward one on a schooner

HAH its good to take the bad points of anything ehhh, and forget the good ones.

Yes it was a 1985 model. But the lines I speak of are of the coachroof, have been copied and when it was presented was revolutiontary. We speak of 1985. The first Squadron the 62 (1992) copied a lot the lines of this coach roof in my opinion, and not only!
The Princess Fairline of the periods had a steel radar arch, as all the boats of the period. I dont know of much flybridge boats with integrated radar arch of the time. Canados and Mochi (also revolutionary in design) may be? Princess and Fairline where coming with them in 87/88, as was Ferretti, and a couple of other builders.
No the radar arch for the 52 was always a two part. Later 52s had the option of a fiberglass stern. Daf, but at the time they felt it gave may be an open feel of the aft deck.
The half missing radar arch was daf (agree) and that was the 51 Technema originally named 48.
I like a lot the wing hull which is a difference, and actualy serves its purposes. Tumble home is a bit an insult to the TH. Definitly not traditional, and it does infact still look ultra modern.

But you are right if Possilipo would have over saw the defects of radar arch, and stern with some owners actualy doing it themselves the 52 would have been to much ahead of its time.
Apart this it rides well and is constructed like a brick.
The 55 Technema oversaw these evolutions in 1996 till 1998 until it was stopped in production, but then a new generation of flybridge boats was being born and it did look old. Yes it as a 15 years design what do you think, and more expensive to other boats of the period.
These changes also may be never happened because at the time Posillipo was actually state local community controlled before it went bust in 92, and Rizzardi restarted production in 93.

One last thing for those who understands yachts of a certain size in an age where marketing did not exist and it was more about the real marina talke in the 13 to 18 meters Posilipo was considered the main competitor to the Riva Superamerica, Corsaro models with its Martinica, Tobago, and Technema models.
A captain in the eighties would definitly tell you if you like to show in port buy a Riva if you like to go in the sea in various conditions take the Posillipo. Note the boats had similar price tags double to everything more main stream in circulation.
