Anyone know what the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is like as a cruising ground and whether it would be possible to leave a boat there for a hurricane season?
Its not really a cruising ground, nor is Nicaragua. You can stop at Providencia and San Andreas, 2 islands off the Nic coast but actually belonging to Colombia.
Or go to Bocas del Toro in NW Panama. There are 2 marinas there, one quite upmarket, ie it wouldn't look out of place in the UK. The other is a bit third worldy. We spent Christmas 2004 there
But be warned there are only 2 seasons, wet or very wet. No hurricanes though, just lightning in the summer.
Bocas has really the only safe marinas until you go to Panamarina, just east of Portobello and 40 miles east of Colon. Thats where my Eclipse catamaran is at present
