We are in the process of buying a holiday home on the Costa Blanca in Spain (Campoamor/Torrevieja area) and are considering getting a Rib/Sportsboat, either purchasing one down there or buying here and trailering it down. There are several marinas on this part of the coast, but most are small and very basic. Can anyone recommend a marina in this part of Spain and how do berthing costs compare with the UK? Has anyone bought a boat in Spain?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Ian
Returned from Costa Blanca yesterday. I'm buying an apartment just north of Altea, and have been researching the same as you. I can't afford boat AND villa so we are going for apartment with communal pool etc, (no garden or pool to worry about when we are away- We will be in the UK most of the time so like you it's a holiday home). See my previous post on this subject. The upate is that there is space at Altea, for 9 metres or less in length, Costs vary according to season (hellish expensive in August) paid by the day with 10% discount for the year in advance. I have a copy of price list at home you could have if interested. The marina at Mascarat (Greenwich marina) will double in size as per previous post, but looks more expensive, and exclusive. Berths can be bought it appears, as well as hired. try a google search on "marina greenwich" and translate the Spanish pages to get an idea of costs to buy! I'm afraid I don't know much about the Torrievieja area, but it is worth looking around to see what's available. There seem to be a lot of boat brokers / showrooms inland, and not on the coast as one might expect.

It takes friends that we made in the area 3 days driving from Calais to get to the C/Blanca. It may take more towing, or go to Santander by ferry.

Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.skyscanner.net/wings.asp>http://www.skyscanner.net/wings.asp</A> for an excellent flight search engine for all continental flights. Doesnt include Mercia airport though.

Reply or PM me if there's anything else I might be able to help with. The apartment becomes mine tomorrow!

Thanks for the the info.

Our property won't be finished until September, so are slightly "sweaty" over the Euro!!

The marinas we have seen are more akin to those one might find on the french canals, ie veeeery basic indeed - not even a "toilet block" so I cannot imagine they are too expensive. We were there last week, but didn't have time to explore and I must admit I assumed we would find info on the web. Unfortunately my Spanish is nonexistantio, so what references I have found mean very little!!

We were originally going to buy a Sea Ray or similar sportscruiser here to replace our Aquabell, which we sold last year - but the house in Spain caused us to think again. We certainly won't be able to afford an expensive annual berth, hence the thought of a slightly smaller sportsboat, which we can keep on a trailer and/or perhaps in a marina down there for a few weeks in early/late summer to extend the season.

We did look in on a few brokers while there, but most of the cheaper/smaller boats had seen much better days, perhaps this is indicative of the extra usage boats get in decent weather. With the strong Euro, there seems little difference in pricing of new boats - but may be this will change when they have their next Euro meeting in June - we live in hope!!!

Anyway thanks.

Ian

The general cost of berthing is probably not that far off half the costs of England..... Cobbs Quay - Marina Internacional Torrevieja!! There are certainly several to choose from. Torre istelf is probably fairly well packed but you could enquire at the marina itself and Oliver Marine and Navicularia. However if you have a smaller boat say 22ft ish then there is Cabo Roig which seems to take that type of boat, and several marinas in the Mar Menor to choose from if you don't mind further afield!

I have had a boat there since Oct 2000 and we have just bought a studio also.

Of course due to the low costs (compared with UK) there are loads of people now heading there!

Well unless the recent tidal wave puts them off!!!

Hi,
I'm a Spanish man sailing on the costa blanca for more than 20 years. I have a flat in Torre Horadada and a mooring place in the marina Torre Horadada. People who come here find it really interesting and cheap (http://www.costablanca.org/cntorredelahoradada_I.asp). If you are interested I can send you some more information. I'm a teacher of English in a secondary School in Orihuela, and I love sailing and diving.
You are welcome to ask me about anything you are interested about this part of sunny Spain.

Greetings
Hipolito
