The fly bridge wind shield on my boat is very badly crazed and I'd like to replace it. It's in 2 identical halves each around 1.7M in length and ranging from around 0.6M to 0.3M in height. As I think is apparent from the photo it is semi-hooped shape [can't think of a better description]. I have a guy coming to look at it tomorrow but I've no idea what's a fair price for making a replacement. Anyone any experience or idea please?

Its not going to be cheap, the cost of a couple of sheets of perspex is pretty pricey, then a wooden buck or former needs to be made to bend it over -2 required one for each side , and of course quite a big oven is needed to heat the flat blank for bending.

Trying that with a heat gun would be hopeless; it would look awful and be unusable as a screen due to the distortions. As said just the material cost will be several hundred pounds.

My 64" x 28" wheelhouse window in 6mm was about £75 for the Acrylic. I guess the unsupported shape would need to be 8 or 10mm. I would expect to get the acrylic for around £200-300. The shaping looks to be quite a specialist job and I think will be expensive, also fiding someone to do it may be a challenge?

Have you done it yourself? I've not had any problems. Also the perspex doesn't need to be excessively thick as the curve will give it support. Also use a steamer and boiling water if you prefer. Several methods are available.

From experience, if done in UK would be in excess of £1500
Thanks. They quoted me 25,000 TL so just shy of €1,200 or £1,050 plus VAT @18% if I want an official invoice [par for the course in Türkiye]. The perspex is 10mm. They say 3 weeks to completion which takes me beyond my planned date to head to Greece so I'm long fingering it until the autumn.
Thanks all for your input.

PS - according to a current thread on Trawlerforum I should be calling my windshield a "venturi"

If you eventually do get it done, make sure completion includes fitting and make sure they fit it. If the bend is wrong it'll be a nightmare, and far better to let them have that nightmare without the opportunity to walk away. The additional cost of fitting will likely be tiny compared to the whole job

This is going on an expensive boat. It has to look right. Who in their right mind is going to 'have a go' because I saw it on YouTube?

Perspex is not such a cheap material that if you botch it - and there's plenty of opportunities for that in this process - that you would want to have a second go.

YouTube videos may be fine in learning how to change a plug but you would be mad to use it for forming a flybridge screen which is formed in three dimensions.

There was a young guy in Marmaras who did this he came out to us Orhaniye did a fantastic job, maybe ask around at Netsel and see if he's still going, I can picture him but dammed if I remember his name, as for cost, if I can't remember then it wasn't that much...

Thanks. I'll enquire. If there's a big price difference I'd certainly consider a trip to Marmaris in the autumn.

As an aside to the thread, I've just had a quick look at your web site Aja, tremendous work and supremely skillful! Very impressed!

er I completely disagree.......... that's what i did...making a screen in 3 dimensions for a Triana and it came out well first time based on the principal of "don't think just do"

Well done.

The OP is not going to be doing it himself.

I was just observing that others had posted that using YouTube was a viable alternative, which I believe to be risky.

Well obviously you wouldn't attempt it but it depends on your level of expertise and ability.

I once bent some perspex(?) using a heat gun for a racing car I built (many years ago) and it was fine.

JUST NOTED Three dimensions? (Why would they do that!) No I would never attempt that. Not an amateur's job(y)
