Hi, my boat is currently on the hard in Conwy, North Wales and I'm wanting to transport her by road to Sheffield, where i live, so that I can carry out essential work on her. She's a Westerly Griffon, 26 foot long, anyone know approximately the cost of road transport per mile or whatever?

I had a 35ft yacht moved from Helensburgh to Plymouth for £1400 last year. Having spent time trying to match up return loads etc in retrospect I should have just got on and moved it at soon as I could. The guy who did mine was excellent and is based in Beverley. If you place a simple notice on www.shiply.com you'll be surprised at the amount of interest it'll generate from boat transport companies looking for return loads. Doesn't cost anything to place a notice but you do pay a very reasonable commission if you accept a subsequent bid.

Cheers, Brian.

I had a 30' fin keeler moved from the east coast to cornwall for 1k recently (it was quoted at £950 then he added £50 to the final bill after the deed was done). Then I never got a receipt despite asking for one 5 times... wonder if he paid his full tax on that job? :o

Unlikely to find a return load as doubt there is much traffic between those two localities. In addition to the road transport, which is likely to be £1k+ you also have the lift at each end. Although should be OK if you are in a yard with a crane, you may need to hire a crane at your home end. It might be possible to find a transporter with a HIAB, although the boat might be too heavy.

Theere are plenty of boat transport companies around - best to ask locally where the boat is to see if there is one locally based.
