\'cosmetic\' repairs to outdrive

I need to effect some repairs to an outdrive that has suffered from galvanic corrosion. I am advised that the damage is cosmetic by a mechanic and that I should use a light wire brush to get back to clean metal in the pitted areas, prime then paint then antifoul.
I would like to fill, mould (around front of skeg) etc as far as possible and would ask the panel if this is wise, and if so which filler should I use from their experience..........
ps let's not drift onto outdrives, galvanic corrosion causes, merc v volvo etc - we are nearly in April and I just want to fix it!!!

Re: \'cosmetic\' repairs to outdrive

hi duncan, what you need is someone who is used to bodg... repairing rather than replacing... it just so happens that i......... sorry a friend of mine a few years hence had to do the very same. you can MIG/TIG the corrosion holes (this kills the corrosion) or fill with isopon 2 pack metal filler (the stuff you can drill and tap) might be called liquid metal. use chemical etch primer or the paint'll slide off (esp at 30Kn!)

coat of decent pain and some antifoul if you fancy it.. good as new. worked for me... or rather my freind!

best wishes, steve.

Re: \'cosmetic\' repairs to outdrive

thanks steve, I am assuming that providing I can get the drive and scraficial anodes to swap their respective roles back the 'corrosion' will cease, and on the other side, it won't matter how much or what paint etc I use if I don't it will continue!
Plastic metal (or whatever) it is then.....
