The Corus depth indicator etc repeater in the cockpit of my boat is only working intermitently while the one at the charttable is fine.Sometimes the image is totally clear and sometimes it disappears. It seems there is moisture inside the screen. The previous owner who I cannot contact left me notes to say it could be 'dried'. I would be really grateful for information on how to do this as it does not obviously come apart. With many thanks

I have a Dataline (Robertson)system, one display of which suffers from intermittant fogging - water ingress. The manual advises switching to highest intensity lighting level, 1 to 7 available, to clear. If the Corus has adjustable light intensity it might be worth a try.

I had Corus log and depth which suddenly had a serious condensation problem despite being only a couple of years old and always covered when not in use. I sent them off to the manufacturers who replaced the casings and the electronic board in one of them which was moisture damaged. It cost me a fortune and I could have bought new in a cheaper but well known brand for less. Like a lot of other boat gear we are sold, these things hate the marine environment!

According to the response I have just had from Mr Farragher of Navico, Corus instruments should not be exposed to sunlight for extended periods as this affects the LED's.
I removed - oozernidjet then? - the excellent, but somewhat battered 17-year-old Stowe set of wind, speed and log heads and transducers in 1999 and replaced them in August of that year with £1,700-worth of Corus wind, speed, log, 300 series Tillerpilot and the multi-function repeater to boot down in the nav station.
The lot began to malfunction from mid-season 2002, with intermittent illumination faults, gradual breakdown in LED functions, crazing of the C300D head, condensation within the 'hermetically sealed' units, and while on passage from Plymouth to Quiberon last July, we lost the echo sounder completely, preceded by the TP300 failing also - you could push and pull the control rod out by hand.
I contacted Simrad Navico by email in December, 2003, but received no reply, and again pinged them in February with similar results before finally writing unjoined up words on my yachting journalist-type letterhead paper with a copy to YM.
I received an almost by reply response, inviting me to send the said units for an inspection.
As we're a two-up crew, 'Percy Prong' is vital to us, and we replaced the TP300 while we were in La Trinite - at a better price than we could have got it in UK.
Most of my trade contacts reckon Raymarine - or at least its predecessors - kit has a life of around 11 to 13 years before the displays begin to breakdown.
Again, it seems there was/is a fundamental problem with the Corus units. We always put the covers on to the compasses and the external electronics displays as soon as we have completed a sail/passage.
I do not accept that three seasons use in the northern hemisphere is at all acceptable.

Hi Jezza,

Do you still have the Navico Corus kit. Would you be interested in selling any of it? Is the Wind Transducer in working order? O and what kind of displays are they, the 600AD ones?

Look forward to you reply,

Thanks,

Zulf
