Hi all,

Just about to invest in either a Corus Multi C400M or Clipper Duet. Slightly interested in the C400M since apparently i can add on a wind/mast head transducer and obtain apparent wind information too. Obviously buying a completely seperate wind unit is more expensive.

However i haven't heard much about this Corus Multi instrument. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Tyrone.

Since Navico were taken over by Simrad (or amalagamated) little is shown in the yachting mags of the Corus range. If you have access to a West Marine catalogue, there is quite a lot in there on the Corus range.

As well as the NASA range of instruments, have you thought of the reasonably priced Navman instruments made in New Zealand and distributed by Plastimo?

I have them in my boat, and can find no fault with them. I have the Log and Wind Speed, and can get the wind readings - apparent and true - you are talking about. They also make a Multi, though I don't know whether this will show wind as well. Have a look at their site.

BTW, why don't you wait for the Southampton boat show, and have a look at all the systems on offer there, and talk to the people on the stands. Some of them know what they are talking about. Some are purely salesmen. Try to get one of the former!

regards,
Philip

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at web sites etc and will chew a bit on the info you gave me.

Thanks once again

I fitted a Corus system a couple of seasons ago, and I am delighted with it (but see my posting elsewhere about the log transducer).

However, as another poster has said, the Corus system is not in regular production any more. I assume the special offers that you can see are using up old stock. New units are still being manufactured, but at "spares" prices rather than retail. I have no idea how long this will continue, but there must be the suspicion that spares will get harder to obtain as time goes on.

As far as the quality goes, the Corus is as good as anything on the market, I would rate it alongside, or better than ST60, Simrad &c, and well ahead of Clipper in terms of functionality and quality.

If you are thinking about adding a wind instrument then consider going the C600AD route rather than the C400M

Sure. Thanks for the info. I presume that at this stage i'll go for the clipper since that's more into my budget right now and woudn't want to go messing around with the Corus range which might be out of production as you said.

Thanks a lot

Tyrone.
